Legal seminar on Uniform Civil Code

Kiphire District Legal Services Authority (KDLSA) organised a legal seminar-cum- essay writing competition among the students in collaboration with Zisaji Presidency College Kiphire on April 10 at Zisaji Presidency College, Kiphire on the topic “Uniform Civil Code in Nagaland”. 

In the programme, “Uniform Civil Code in Nagaland” was delivered by CJM secretary KDLSA, Phuleto Yeptho. 
He stated that Uniform Civil Code was meant for all section of the society irrespective of religion and shall be treated equally according to a National Civil Code, which shall be applicable to all uniformly. 
He also cited an example of Goa Civil Code where Goa is the only state to have a UCC in the form of Common Family Law.  
Asst. professor, HoD political science, Gagan Chandra Mishra spoke on “UCC- Retrospect and Introspect” to the congregation by highlighting that practically discrimination was still very strong in the present society by citing examples like marriage, adoption, caring of child etc. 
He also stated some Articles like Article 14 of Indian Constitution, which provides equality before law,  Article 25-28 provides Right to freedom of Religion and in Cultural field”.
In the competition, the first prize was won by Chingkela (6th semester) while Lomathong (6th semester) and Tsise (6th semester) won the second and third prizes. 
The winners were awarded with certificate and cash by DLSA, Kiphire. Around 170 participated in the seminar.
