M’laya CM calls on Union ministers on dev issues

Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K. Sangma, who is in Delhi, on Monday called on several Union Ministers and sought financial assistance for the ongoing projects being implemented in the State.

In his meeting with Union Minister of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, who is also Minister In-charge of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Hardeep Singh Puri, chief minister sought support for the urban housing for the poor.

Sangmaalso sought financial support from the Centre for improvement of infrastructure for New Shillongtownship including the development of roads and other infrastructure,” the official informed.

Sangma also requested the Ministry’s support for the development of the aspiring Williamnagar Water Supply Scheme. 

In the presence of officials of the Airport Authority of India, proposals for the expansion of infrastructure for the Umroi Airport and activation of the Baljek Airport were also touched upon.  Sangma informed that the response from Hardeep Singh Puri was positive and the Union Minister has requested details of all the issues brought forward by the Chief Minister. 

The meeting with the Union Minister was also attended by Transport Minister Sniawbhalang 

Dhar and Power Minister James Sangma. 

In the meeting with Union Minister of the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Chief Minister intimated him regarding the implementation and progress of the ambitious Jal Jeevan Mission project in Meghalaya.

“The Union Minister expressed his satisfaction in State’s efforts to execute the Mission and gave his suggestions to improve State’s target. Further, the Union Minister expressed that all support will be extended for the project and encouraged the State Government to pursue the project aggressively,” the official said.

Discussions were also held regarding the pending PMKSY micro-irrigation Schemes and Har Khet Ko Pani scheme including the release of funds and approvals for various projects proposed to the Ministry.

He also sought the Ministry’s support for the State Government’s proposed initiative to rejuvenate Wah Umkhrah and Umsyrpi river. 

Union Minister spoke in support of the State Government’s plans and instructed officials present in the meeting to ensure that the projects see the light of day. Sangma was accompanied by PHE Minister BroldingNongsiej in the meeting today.

He also called on Union Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju along with Deputy Chief Minister PrestoneTynsong and apprised him of the ongoing construction of different sports infrastructure in the State. Sangma sought for Ministry’s support to organize the proposed North East Youth Festival 2022 in Shillong, to commemorate the 50th year of Meghalaya’s Statehood. 

“Union Minister has expressed his keen desire to support Govt of Meghalaya in creating sporting infrastructure and has assured all help for hosting of the North East Youth Festival in Shillong,” the CMO official said. 

Chief Minister also called on Union Minister for Environment and Climate Change Prakash Javadekar along with Environment Minister James K. Sangma. They sought support and cooperation for various environment related projects in the State and have apprised the Union Minister on matters related to eco sensitive zones of Nokrek, Balpakram and Siju.
