M’laya patient tested negative for COVID-19

Blood sampler of a patient from Meghalaya who was put on observation for suspected COVID-19 infection has tested negative, an official said on Wednesday.

“We have received from the medical authorities of NEIGRIHMS that the suspected case of COVID-19 has been tested and found negative,” State’s Secretary for Health and Family Welfare Department, P Sampath Kumar  said. Kumar said government received the report on Wednesday.

 The 38-year-old patient has been admitted to the isolation ward on Monday after the case was reported in the dermatology ward. The male patient was referred for a blood test by PK Bhattacharya. State Surveillance Officer of Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP), Dr M.Marbaniang said the patient has a travel history to Delhi and all precautionary measures taken and sample has been sent  to National Institute of Cholera and Enteric Diseases, Kolkata. East Khasi Hills deputy commissioner, Matsiewdor War Nongbri also confirmed that no cases of COVID-19 were detected in the district. Nongbri also urged the social media users to refrain from posting and sharing any rumour which creates panic and anxiety among the public.
