Manipur logs 963 new COVID-19 cases

After a daily surge of above 1000-mark for four consecutive days, the state on Sunday reported 963 new cases, taking the overall infection caseload to 84,822. The state has been reporting above 1,000-mark since July 14 with the highest single-day spike of 1,171 cases on Saturday.  These surging cases led to the imposing of stricter curfew in the entire region of the state for 10 days, beginning from today. The death toll due the COVID-19 complications also rose to 1,376 with 11 fresh deaths reported on the day, the state health department said. A total of 723 patients were discharged during the day, which took the recovery count to 73,770. The state’s recovery rate dropped to 86.97 per cent. As 6,174 tests were conducted on Sunday, taking the total number of tests done so far to 10,02,399. The number of active cases in the state increased to 9,676. With the increase in the active cases in the last few days, only 1,736 beds in the Covid care centres including in government and private hospitals were available, the health department said.
