Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly on Saturday put in abeyance his order of inducting eight new members in the Hill Areas Committee (HAC). An order of the Speaker passed on September 1 last inducted MLAs representing eight Assembly constituencies, partly situated in hill areas, as members of the HAC.

However, the memberships of the MLAs were kept in abeyance until further order consequent upon receipt of applications from the eight MLAs, the order of the Manipur Legislative Assembly secretariat signed by its secretary K Meghajit Singh stated.

The order keeping in abeyance the memberships came after a heated debate over the legality of the order issued by the Speaker. Following the heated debate, three MLAs of the Congress included among the eight inducted in the HAC had submitted their resignation from being members of the committee.

While informing the submission of the resignation letters by the three Congress MLAs, former chief minister O Ibobi Singh demanded revocation of the order of the Speaker in the interest of the people of the state.
