Menuosetuo crowned ‘King of the Ring’

Reigning Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) Open champion Menuosetuo Yiese from Kohima village emerged as the champion of the invitational Naga Wrestle Mania 8 –“King Of The Ring Championship 2021” here at Naga Solidarity Park, Kohima on Saturday evening. 

22 year-old, Menuosetuo Yiese weighting 130 kg and standing 6 feet tall downed 22 year old, Kezhaseluo-o Pienyu by two straight bouts in the final bout to emerge as the new champion of the championship. 

Yiese on his way to the finals defeated NWA champion Venuzo Dawhuo in the quarterfinal round, and in the semifinal bout he defeated Seketuokho Nipu. 

Kezhavizo Thevo claimed the third position and Seketukho Nipu in fourth position of the wrestling championship. The quarter finalists for the championship were Venuzo Dawhuo, Medosatuo Paunuo, Serayi Tetseo, Neithongulie Kuotsu. 

The champion Menuosetuo Yiese pocketed a cash prize Rs. 50,000, runner-up Pienyu from Kohima village received Rs. 30,000, third position holder Kezhavizo Thevo from Chedema village and fourth place Nipu from Sechu Zubza walked away Rs. 15,000 and Rs. 10,000 respectively. 

The one-day event was organised by 3E Nagaland under the aegis of Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA). A total of 20 Naga wrestlers fought for the coveted title “King Of The Ring Championship 2021”.
