Minister for rural development, Metsübo Jamir inaugurated a hotel-cum farmer’s-market at the Longsa - Suruhuto junction on April 14, in the presence of a host of RD department officials, NDPP Mokokchung party leaders and Longsa villagers.

While inaugurating the complex, Metsübo said that the villagers should be thankful to the PDA government especially the state chief minister for understanding the need of the people in the area and making the dream of having a farmer’s market and hotel a reality.

He said that the government can only provide the infrastructure and that it was up to the people to maintain and derive the benefits from what the government agencies provided.

In this regard, he urged the villagers to keep the vicinity and the building clean and maintain it as a sacred place where people can buy and sell their products and earn their livelihood.

While strongly advocating hard work among the people, the minister pointed out that God provided enough fertile land to Nagas, which must be cultivated by the people.

He said that Naga people must start to judiciously cultivate their lands and lead a self-sufficient life.

While delivering the welcome address, chairman of Longsa village council, Talichuba asserted that the newly inaugurated complex was a long felt need of the people which would serve not only the Longsa villagers but also the nearby villages in Zunheboto and Tuensang district. He said that the complex by virtue of its location at Longsa-Suruhuto junction would cater to the needs of not only the Aos but also that of the Sumis and the Sangtams. He therefore thanked the minister and rural development department for constructing the infrastructure on a priority basis.

Earlier, short speech was also delivered by project director DRDA Mokokchung, Toshimongla Kichu while pastor of Longsa Baptist Church, Supong pronounced dedicatory prayer.

It may be mentioned that the two storey building has space for famers to sell their products and a spacious hall, kitchen and toilets to operate a restaurant.
