Ministry of textiles conduct seminar for artisans in Dimapur

Development commissioner (handicrafts), Government of India, Ministry of Textiles, Handicrafts Service Centre Kohima, organized a seminar on “Awareness on schemes of development commissioner (handicrafts) and GI registration e-commerce, GeM portal, GST etc” for artisans under research and development schemes for 2021-22, on September 22, at Hotel Aquila, Dimapur. 

A press release by assistant director, development commissioner (handicrafts), T Rollee Vareishim stated that managing director, Nagaland Industrial Development Corporation Ltd. (NIDC), government of Nagaland, P Zuvito Waths, inaugurated the seminar. 

Managing Director, Nagaland Women Vocational Training Institute, Dimapur, Temjenla Jamir, shared usage of e-commerce and benefits of artisans for marketing using help of latest technology, while director in charge, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Kohima Region, Dr. Mayonmi Shimray, shared facilities of artisans for admission and studies with free study materials while working at home and receiving degrees up to graduation level in any stream. 

Assistant commissioner of state taxes, Dimapur, Tokatoli Sohe explained the system and application of Goods and Services Tax (GST) for importers and exporters of artisans. Empaneled designer of DC handicrafts, NE region, Viqheli Tsuqu also explained the importance of design in handicrafts productions and encouraged participants to apply suitable and meaningful designs in handicrafts productions so that market value was enhanced. 

Handicrafts promotion officer, HSC Kohima, Rajib Chandra Roy, further shared the importance and necessity of Government e-Marketing (GeM) portal and registration of Geographical Indication (GI) of handicrafts so that duplicate of item was avoided. The seminar concluded with vote of thanks delivered by UDC, HSC Kohima, KH Nipamacha Singh.
