Monyu volleyball tourney underway

The first edition of Phom Monyu volleyball trophy organized by Dimapur Phom Students Union (DPSU) got underway on Wednesday, at DDSC stadium, Dimapur under the theme “Breaking Barriers”. 

In Dimapur, the opening ceremony was graced by personal secretary to minister of Health and Family Welfare, Imtizulu Phom, who in his speech appreciated the initiative of DPSU. 

Highlighting on the importance of skill development, he encouraged the youths not only focus on government job but learn to excel and focus on which ever they were good. He encouraged the youths not to give up on their dream and passion. Phom also encouraged the gatherings to learn to live in unity and put effort in keeping up with one’s tradition and custom. He also asked to put their faith in God first. 

Highlights of the programme included oath taking ceremony which was presided over by DPSU games and sports secretary P Baiilong Phom, invocation by Phom Baptist Attoi Dimapur associate pastor for youth, L Chingshen and welcome note by DPSU president Y Enyuh Phom. The closing ceremony will be held on April 1 with EAC, Jalukie C Wangan as special guest.  In Longleng, the tournament was graced by president, Eastern Nagaland Woman Organization A. Shamthai Phom as special guest. 

She congratulated LTSU for organizing the tournament annually and giving a platform for the upcoming sportspersons. 

Earlier, welcome address was delivered by chairman, Planning Committee (PMOVT) followed by special presentation by BU-OO-LI and significance of POVT by former president (LTSU), Henai Phom.

Meanwhile, according to DIPR report, the 10th Phom Monyu Open Volleyball Tournament, organized by Longleng Town Students Union (LTSU), under the theme: “Gits, Guts, Glory”, was held at Public Ground, Longleng on March 30.
