More FIRs against marriage attendees in Meghalaya

District authorities in East Khasi Hills will file an additional FIR against remaining six persons who attended a wedding party at Greenwood Resort in Assam allegedly for violating the COVID-19 protocols. On Monday, East Khasi Hills District Magistrate, Matsiewdor War Nongbri had filed FIR against 35 persons who had attended a wedding feast at Khanapara in Assam. “We have received the additional report on the six persons from the Health and Family Welfare department who had attended the wedding party and we will be filing the FIR,” Nongbri said. The wedding feast took place at Greenwood Resort, Guwahati on June 27 and another reception was held in Shillong on July 2, following which two of the attendees were tested positive for COVID-19.
Meanwhile, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Sylvester Nongtnger said that the police have already registered a case against the 35 persons named in the FIR who had attended the wedding party. “We have identified those people (who attended the wedding party),  their places of stay and once they complete the quarantine period we will start recording their statements and continue  with our investigation,” Nongtnger said.
The district police chief informed that a case has been registered in Sadar Police Station, Shillong.
Police have registered the case at Sadar Police Station under appropriate sections of The Disaster management Act, Epidemic Diseases Act, and Meghalaya Epidemic Diseases Covid19 Regulations, 2020.         
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong urged the citizens of the state not to doubt the law since it is same for all.
“Action will be taken against them as per the law of the land,” Tynsong asserted.
