A lactating 36-year-old woman died hours after receiving the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine in Manipur’s Thoubal district, reports said on Tuesday.

This is the third death in the state among people who have taken the vaccine against COVID-19. State chief minister had assured an inquiry to ascertain the exact cause of her death.
Laishram Kiranbala Devi, a mother of a seven-month-old child, got the first dose of Covidshield yesterday (Monday) around 1.30 and was in observation for half an hour.
She went to bed in the evening, around 5.30 pm, with a complaint of illness and uneasiness but was found in an unconscious state when her husband L Sarat woke her up some minutes later.
She was immediately rushed to Thoubal district hospital where she died without regaining consciousness, Sarat added.
Following a complaint lodged by the family, Thoubal police retrieved the dead body from the district hospital and transferred it to the morgue of JNIMS hospital, Imphal for post-mortem examination.
Locals of Khangabok Part-1 of Thoubal district where the deceased hailed from, formed a joint action committee (JAC) and submitted a memorandum to the state chief minister, demanding an inquiry to ascertain the exact cause of her death.
In a meeting with a delegation of the JAC, the chief minister assured a one-man inquiry to ascertain the exact cause of the death of the woman, the JAC claimed.
In the memorandum, the JAC alleged that the woman died of the Covid vaccine while claiming that she had no history of suffering from any chronic illness. The JAC sought an inquiry to find out the exact cause of death of the woman while demanding conduct of the post-mortem examination before an executive magistrate with video coverage.
While pressing the state government to make known the exact cause of her death to the public on or before June 10, the JAC threatened to launch agitation in case the state government failed to address their demands.
This is the sixth death among the people of the state allegedly after receiving the vaccine to protect from COVID-19 in the state.
Two women, all anganwadi workers who were declared as frontline workers and beneficiaries of the first phase of the vaccination drive have died allegedly after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine in the state.
On February 19 last, a 48-year-old woman, who was also an anganwadi helper from Bishnupur district, died a week after she received COVID-19 vaccination. The second death case was reported in Jiribam district when an anganwadi worker died after receiving the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine on March 7 last.
