Nagaland CM Neiphiu Rio’s mother passes away

Kevilhouü Rio mother of state chief minister Neiphiu Rio and also advisor Advisor Sericulture, Excise & Minority Affairs, Zhaleo Rio passed away on January 1 at Oking Hospital Kohima after a prolonged illness.

She was 91 and leaves behind four sons and two daughters (three had predeceased her), a host of grandchildren and great-grand children. Several hundred paid homage to the departed at the funeral service held in Kevilhouü Rio Auditorium of the G. Rio School Thursday morning. 

In his speech chief minister Neiphiu Rio recalled how his late mother brought up the nine children after the demise of their father late G. Rio over 30 years ago. He described his late mother as a one who lived a faithful and prayerful life, showing deep love and concern for all especially the poor and needy. The most profound testimonies of some of the children and especially the grand children spoke of how late Kevilhouü’s giving nature where no one who visited her would return empty handed.

Host of legislators, dignitaries and well wishers also attended the funeral service at Kohima and later accompanied the family to the Rio’s family cemetery at Botsa.

Condolences: Dy Chief minister Y. Patton in his condolence message described late Kevilhouü as a God fearing woman who had been a source of strength and inspiration to those around her. Patton said she raised one of the tallest political leaders of our time in the form of present chief minister Neiphiu Rio besides other notable siblings.

Minister of H&Tech education, Tribal Affair Temjen Imna Along in his message, said late Kevilhouü, lived life to her fullest, was a faithful and honourable wife man who feared the Lord and whose prayers brought blessings upon her children and grand children.

Minister of soil & water conservation and geology and mining, V. Kashiho Sangtam in a message, said the passing away of late Kevilhouü and earlier that of late Vikho-ü Yhoshü speaker NLA at a festive time “was saddening”. He said late Kevilhouü was  a kind and compassionate, strong in faith and a Godly mother who did many wonderful deeds for many people.

NDPP: NDPP president Chingwang Konyak expressed deep grief on behalf of the party at the demise of Kevilhouü Rio the mother of chief minister Neiphiu Rio and advisor Zhaleo Rio. Chingwang said the indelible mark of late Kevilhouü was impacted even within the NDPP as he believed her blessings and prayers has made the party what it is today. 

NDPP secretary general Abu Metha, in his condolence message, said late Kevilhouü was an extraordinary woman who exemplified an ideal mother and wife and with the noble virtues.

Metha said apart from raising an eminent personality like present chief minister Neiphiu Rio and advisor Zhaleo Rio, late Kevhilhouü also shaped the lives of her other children, grand children who are today leaders in different spheres of education, medicine, social service, entrepreneurship and the corporate sector.

He said the passing away of late Kevilhouü has brought emptiness to all the family and close ones who will always cherish and  remember her contributions.

NPF: NPF president Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu in his condolence message, expressed sadness at the passing away of late Kevilhouü who he described as a God fearing, hard working and upright woman whose efforts to raise illustrious sons and daughters spoke volumes of her motherly character. Dr. Shürhozelie also said late Kevilhouü epitomised virtues that should be emulated. He conveyed condolences to the family on behalf of the rank and file of NPF and prayed that God grant solace and strength to the family to overcome their grief.

CMO: Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) in a condolence through Lhoubeilatuo Kire,  additional chief secretary  to CM and all staff described late Kevilhouü as a “woman of substance and a pillar of strength to all her descendants. The CMO recalled that even as a widow with many children, late Kevilhouü remained steadfast in her role towards the well being of her children, grand children and great grandchildren, many of who became eminent personalities. CMO said in the demise of late Kevilhouü, the people have lost a role model, a prayer warrior and a kind soul who cannot be replaced.

NMA: Naga Mothers Association(NMA) in a message described late Kevillhouü as a “motherly figure to the Association since its inception” and also its strong supporter. NMA said late Kevilhouü was a devout and prayerful  woman who encouraged mothers to be strong and the best they could be.

CPO: Chakhroma Public Organisation(CPO) and all frontal organisations expressed grief to learn of the passing away of late Kevilhouü, mother of chief minister Neiphiu Rio, Advisor Zhaleo Rio and their family. CPO president Vichütuolie Mere and general secretary Mhiesisato Vüprü, in  a message, said God had answered the prayers of late Kevilhouü in raising her children most of who are today leaders in various fields.

Advisor Noke: Advisor social welfare and home guard and civil defence, Noke Wangnao, has expressed grief over the demise of Kevilhouü Rio and conveyed deepest condolences to the bereaved family.

In a condolence message to chief minister Neiphiu Rio, Noke said “my thoughts goes out to each and every one of your family at this hour.” He prayed that the good Lord bring much needed comfort, peace and strength to the bereaved family during this time of grief.

ENPO: Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organization (ENPO) on behalf of the people of Eastern Nagaland, conveyed its sincerest condolences on the passing away of Mrs. Kevilhounyii-ii Rio, mother of chief minister Neiphiu Rio. 

In a condolence message, ENPO president Kekongchim and general secretary Manlang Phom said that though it may be difficult to bear the loss of a beloved mother, yet God saw her needed rest and took her away to be with him forever. “Aunt lived a long and productive life, truly loved, admired and appreciated by everyone,” ENPO stated. It prayed for the love and mercy of the Lord Almighty upon the grieving family during this grieving time and for the departed soul to rest in eternal peace.

NPCC: Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has expressed extreme pain over the demise of late Mrs. Kevilhouü Rio. 

In a condolence message to the chief minister Neiphiu Rio and family, NPCC president K Therie said though the family has many reasons to celebrate her life, no words can comfort the loss of late mother. NPCC president shared grief with the bereaved family and said that his thoughts and prayers were with them during this time of painful parting. He also conveyed deepest condolences on behalf of all rank and file of party to family members.

KTC: Kachari Tribal Council (KTC) has offered deepest condolences to the family members of late Mrs. Kevilhou Rio, who breathed her last on January 1, 2020. 

In a condolence message, KTC said she was a mother just not to chief minister Neiphiu Rio, and advisor Zhaleo Rio but a mother to all she ever came across.

NCSU: NCSU has also expressed condolences to the bereaved family at the passing away of late Kevilhouü wife of NCSU founding member late Guohoulie Rio and also mother of chief minister Neiphiu Rio. NCSU described late Kevilhouü as  a  God fearing and great mother who produces great leader of Nagaland.

NDPP unit: Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) 5 Ghaspani-II A/ C has expressed deep sadness over the demise of Mrs.Kevilhouü Rio, and conveyed its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.

In a condolence message, NDPP 5 Ghaspani-II A/ C unit described late Kevilhouü as one dedicated mother whose perseverance and commitment as a mother with faith in God had borne fruit through her children who were today leaders of Nagas in various capacities. 

NDPP unit prayed that the Almighty Lord be with the grieving family and also them as they overcome their sorrow and rebound to lead the Nagas into the future.

NDPP Mon region: Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) Mon region has extended sincere condolences on the demise of late Mrs Kevilhouü Rio, mother of chief minister Neiphiu Rio.

In a condolence message, NDPP Mon region president S Khoiwang Wangsa also extended sympathies to the bereaved family and prayed that God grant them strength in this most difficult time of grief to bear the irreparabale loss.

NCA: Nagaland Cricket Association (NCA) has expressed grief over the demise of Mrs. Kevilhouil Rio and extended its heartfelt condolences and sincere prayers to all the members of the bereaved family. 

In a condolence message, NCA hon. general secretary Hyunilo Anilo Khing said late Kevilhouu Rio was a truly devout and prayerful mother and wife, who also groomed and guided her children to grow up to handle and manage the affairs of Nagaland State with dedication. 

NCA said her life would remain a testimony to all mothers and wives. NCA prayed that the Lord God Almighty continue to provide solace, love and protection to bereaved family during this time.
