Nagaland COVID cases cross 500-mark

COVID-19 cases in Nagaland crossed the 500-mark after 36 fresh cases were reported on Wednesday while 14 patients also recovered from the infection. With this, the state’s total tally rose to 501 cases- 319 active and 182 recovered.

In a tweet, Health minister S. Pangnyu Phom said the positive cases were detected from 235 samples that were tested. Of the 36 cases, 31 were from Peren quarantine centre, 8 from Phek, 2 from Kohima and 1 from Dimapur. All positive patients have been shifted to the respective COVID-19 designated hospitals.

Among those recovered-- 10 were from Assam Rifle Hospital, Sukhovi, Dimapur and 4 from District Hospital, Dimapur.

Till July 1, a total of 12,268 samples had been tested and results of 11,630 were received. Out of 12268 samples, 8070 samples were received at the BSL-3 lab (NHAK) and a total of 7,881 samples were tested, out of which 388 samples tested positive. 

In addition a total of 5,669 samples have been tested by TrueNat, out of which 110 samples tested positive and sent for confirmation by RT-PCR.

India single-day highest jump of 507 COVID deaths

PTI: India on Wednesday recorded the highest single-day jump of 507 COVID-19 deaths and also a majority of cases—close to four lakh—in June to make it the worst month for the country prompting some states to go for varying degrees of lockdown.

The data updated at 8 am on Wednesday also showed that 18,653 new infections were reported in 24 hours taking the  tally to 5,85,493. At the same time, the recovery rate was also steadily improving to touch nearly 60 per cent. It is for the fifth consecutive day that coronavirus cases have increased by more than 18,000.
