Nagaland in winning streak; thrash Mizoram

Nagaland registered their third consecutive victories in Plate group match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy 2020-21 by thrashing Mizoram by 77 runs in Chennai on Sunday.

With today’s victory, Nagaland remained unbeaten from four matches. 

Electing to bat first, after winning the toss, Nagaland managed to put a competitive total of 178/ 6 in 20 overs. Once again, Jonathan Rongsen continued with his superb form by scoring 51 runs. SS Mundhe and Chetan Bist also scored 32 and 30 runs respectively. 

For Mizoram, G Lalbiakvela and Pratik Desai took two wickets each. 

In the run chase, Mizoram were bowled out for 101 runs in 19.1 overs with tight bowling from the Nagaland bowlers led by Nagaho Chishi and Khrievitso Kense, who took three wickets each. Stuart Binny, Hopongkyu and Hem also took one wicket each.

 Amatea (39) and KB Pawan (25) were the major contributors for Mizoram. 

BRIEF SCORES: Nagaland 178/6 in 20 overs (Rongsen Jonathan 51, Shrikant Mundhe 32, Chetan Bist 30, retd. hurt) beat Mizoram 101 in 19.1 overs (Lalhmangaiha 39, Nagaho Chisi 3/12, Khrievitso Kense 3/16).

Nagaland will next face Manipur on January 19. 

Earlier, Nagaland thrashed Arunachal Pradesh by nine wickets after the first match against Chandigarh was abandoned due to bad weather. In the third match, Nagaland beat Sikkim by 100 runs.

Manipur 105/8 in 20 overs (Amod Yadav 4/17) lost to Bihar 107/1 in 17.1 overs (Shasheem Rathour 60 n.o., Babul Kumar 31 n.o.).

Arunachal Pradesh 84/8 in 20 overs (Akhilesh Sahani 41 n.o.) lost to Meghalaya 88/1 in 14.5 overs (D.B. Ravi Teja 36 n.o.).

Chandigarh 204/6 in 20 overs (Shivam Bhambri 75, Bipul Sharma 42) bt Sikkim 73/4 in 20 overs (Varun Sood 34 n.o.)
