Nagaland participates at NE Divya Kala Shakti cultural programme

 Nagaland differently abled artistes participated at the first North East “Divya Kala Shakti” (Ability in Disability) culturalprogrammeat the Dorjee Khandu Convention Center on March 4 which was held with the objective of promoting and providing a platform to talented youths with disabilities.

The cultural event aimed at providing a wide and unique platform to showcase the potential of persons with disabilities in the field of performing arts, music, folk dance, yoga and martial arts, etc.

The event was organised by the departments of Social Justice and Empowerment and Tribal Affairs (SJETA), WCD and Health, in collaboration with the Swami Vivekanand National Institute of Rehabilitation Training and Research, Cuttack, Odisha under DEPWD, ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, GoI.

Around 55 youths with disabilities from all the North East states participated in the regional cultural event with invitees from Delhi, Odisha and West Bengal.

Indigenous Music and Folk-Art School of Indigenous Cultural Society Dimapur, differently abled artistes represented Nagaland state at the event. Nagaland artists comprised of four deaf and dumb and one intellect led by children folkdance guru Kili H. Chishi and Atuna H. Chishi as coach and assistant coach, and escorts.  

The team performed a choreography of Sümi Naga folkdance and a traditional cotton spinning, synchronized with antique folk song and indigenous music. 

The occasion was graced by Brig,(Dr.), B D.Mishra (Retd.) as the chief guest whileminister Social Justice & Empowerment GoI, Dr. Thaawarchand Gehlot, chief minister Arunachal Pradesh, Pema Khandu, minister Social Justice and Empowerment and Tribal Affairs, WCD & Health, Alo Libang, and secretary DEPwD, GoI, Shakuntala D. Gamlin were the guest of honours.
