NE reports first COVID-19 case in Manipur

First novel coronavirus (Covid-19) case in the North East has been reported in Manipur, after a 23 year old woman who had recently returned from the United Kingdom tested positive.

The patient, who hails from Thangmeiband, Imphal West, was currently undergoing treatment at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) hospital in Imphal. An official statement of director of state health services Dr K Rajo confirmed about the case.

According to reports, the woman flew from London to Delhi on March 19, 2020 and arrived at Imphal on March 21 by flight (AirAsia) via Delhi-Kolkata and Agartala sector. State Health authorities also quarantined the entire family member of eight at a government designated centre.

State authorities have also begun to track the co-passengers of the flight. In this regard, state health authorities asked all passengers of AirAsia flight i5-501 to contact them immediately and not later than 8 a.m. of March 25 or face legal action as per IPC.
