NEISSR conducts webinar on human life

North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR), in collaboration with Peace Channel (PC) Dimapur, hosted a webinar on August 9, with prof. Subhabrata Dutta and Dr. Aditi Nath from Silchar University Assam, as the speakers. 

A press release by PRO, NEISSR, Susan Kulnu, Prof. Dutta spoke about “COVID-19 affected communities: Scope of improvement and Social Work interventions”. Focusing on the Covid-19 situation in the rural areas, Dutta highlighted the predicament of migrants returning homes without realizing that they were also bringing back the virus. 

Dr. Aditi Nath spoke about a research that she had carried out recently on “Mental health of students amid COVID-19 pandemic”.  Issues upsetting students and effects of such issues were the objective of the study, leading to academic, job prospect, role of media and citizens behaviour, aspects of physical health, social well being- effective communication with others, supportive and well functioning family, supportive network of friends. 

Principal, NEISSR and director, PC, Dr. Fr. C P Anto, in his opening remark, drew a brief sketch of COVID-19 situations in Nagaland, issues related to stigma, discrimination and rejection faced by COVID-19 positive patients and frontline workers as against the much projected recovery rates and success stories in mainstream media. He further added that fear and apprehensions about the pandemic were apparently doing more harm than how things actually were. He hoped that religious institutions and social organizations can assuage fears in people by demonstrative works.
