NEISSR organises Seminar on NEP 2020 in Dimapur

North-East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) organised a seminar-cum-workshop on National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 under the patronage of Higher Education Department, government of Nagaland on February 27 at NEISSR conference hall.

The programme was designed based on the theme: “Doing together; learning together” while being sensitive to SDG-12 Goal: Responsible Consumption and Production in all the logistic arrangements.

A press release by NEISSR stated that in his keynote address, principal NEISSR, Rev. Dr. Fr. C.P. Anto Paul delivered a short briefing of NEP 2020 with references on the education system of Bhutan and Finland.

He dwelt upon the objectives of NEP 2020 as the filling of various gaps between national and international level of education system.

He also highlighted few positive cruxes of NEP 2020 in particular enhancement and development of students holistically for critical thinking; autonomy for innovative curriculums to colleges and universities; value based education and project based learning; fostering research;  reformed assessment patterns; adoption of government schools by private sectors and promotion unique identity of each institute. 

Guest speaker, freelancer (media and management), Aching Susana elucidated on NEP 2020 and threw light on the background of the education policy.

She also mentioned some of the challenges such as government’s reliability, lack of infrastructure and financial burdens for implementation of the policy. 

A panel discussion to explore NEP 2020 for holistic human development and sustainable peace from perspectives of youth, community development and peace building was anchored by trainer and consultant, Peace Channel, Vitono Gugu Haralu accompanied by faculty of NEISSR.

Dr. Toli H. Kiba, Dr. Amit Das and Dr. Deben Bachaspatimayum Sharma shared their insights on NEP 2020 focusing on the enhancement of the education system, knowledge economy and objective based education.

The panellists shared their perspectives on the inclusion of social work at higher education system and recognition of social work profession. They also shared opinions on how education and politics should never go hand in hand. 

Earlier, faculty NEISSR, Dr. Toli H Kiba pronounced invocation, students’ council president, NEISSR, Sinlo delivered welcome address while vote of thanks was delivered by general secretary NEISSR, Renchamo.

A gallery walk on NEP 2020 was also presented by the peace forum, youth forum and community forum NEISSR.
