Nagaland Foothill Road Construction Committee (NFHRCC) has acknowledged the State government for funding the much-awaited historic Foothill Road to the tune of Rs 6,700 lakh under SPA in 2013-14 and 2014-15, including construction of a two-lane 134.80 metre RCC bridge over Doyang river at Governor’s Camp, Liphanyan.

However, due to various reasons, including discontinuation of SPA, the contractor had temporarily suspended the work in 2017-18. The work was resumed in October 2018 and is in progress with completion of 68.72 % of works till now.

At a meeting held on Saturday, the committee appreciated the State government under the “dynamic leadership” of chief minister Niephiu Rio and deputy chief minister Y Patton for rechristening the Foothill Road as Mega Trans Nagaland Expressway, whose detail project report (DPR) was approved by the Union Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) and a final declaration is awaited from the Prime Minister’s office.

Acknowledging PWD (R&B) chief engineer Limanaro for her prompt response as appealed in furnishing detail proposals to the State government to make the erstwhile Foothill Road motorable before the mega project starts as desired by the Naga public in general, NFHRCC decided to meet both Rio and Patton at the earliest after they return from New Delhi for consultation on the issue of motorable Foothill Road.

The meeting also resolved to request respective village councils and various local area organisations in the vicinity of the Foothill Road to cooperate and assist NFHRCC members as they will be visiting the entire stretch sector wise within this week. This was stated in a press release by NFHRCC convener Subu Jamir, general secretary W Lemba Chang and assistant general secretary Chenithung Humtsoe.
