NIA files chargesheet against NSCN (I-M) functionaries, others

National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed chargesheet before the NIA Special Court, Dimapur, against five accused persons in connection with an alleged extortion case.

In a press release, the NIA said that the case was related to the recovery of Rs. 1,58,72,800 along with illegal arms, ammunition, explosives, and incriminating documents, from the residential premises of “col.” Rayilung Nsarangbe of NSCN (I-M) and his wife Ruth Chawang.
The premier anti-terror investigation agency stated that the investigation of the case revealed “well organized extortion racket by NSCN (I-M) involving criminal intimidation of various companies undertaking road construction projects in Manipur.”
It stated that the developmental funds of the government have been illegally diverted in an organised manner and collected by NSCN(I-M) operatives through extortion by committing a terrorist act punishable under UA(P) Act.
NIA said that the investigation has further revealed that NSCN (I-M) has also laundered the proceeds of terrorism into various financial instruments and real estate investments in the process of layering of the extorted fund. 
The five accused have been identified as “col.” Rayilung Nsarangbe @ Pela @ Pela Nsa Zeme; “pvt” Lamci Iralu @ Keyilamcilung Iralu @ Lamci @ Lamcilung; Zingshongam Muinao @ Zingsho; Ruth Chawang @ Ruth Zeliang @ Rago Chawang and Ramningle Pame @ Ramning.
NIA said that the accused Ramningle Pame was an elected member of autonomous council of district Taemnglong, Manipur and has been assisting NSCN (I-M) in collection of the extortion amount demanded by them. The agency disclosed that further investigation in the case was continuing.
