Nine Covid related deaths, 556 new cases in M’laya

Meghalaya on Tuesday recorded nine COVID-19 related deaths, eight of whom were not vaccinated against the virus, mounting the number of deceased due to the viral disease to 1118.

The State also reported 556 new cases of infection added up to 5,574 active cases, even as 816 more recoveries surged the number of recovered cases to 59,803 in the State, which has registered 66495 confirmed cases so far.

Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War said the deaths recorded included five in East Khasi Hills district and one each in East Jaintia Hills district, South West Khasi Hills district, West Garo Hills district and West Jaintia Hills district.

Till today, 8,59,717 persons have been tested for COVID-19 in the state, of whom 7,93,222 have been tested negative for the virus, as per data released by the National Health Mission,

Meanwhile, 31,845 persons have received the first dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 and 23,146 have received the second dose, 96,974 front-line workers got the first jab and 42,683 took the second shot, 7,69,138 persons from among the general population have been inoculated with the first dose and 1,36,772 citizens have been fully vaccinated with the second dose across the state till date, as per official information.
