NSCN (I-M) dismisses claims of Assam Rifles, Manipur police

NSCN (I-M) has denied Manipur Police’s claim of an encounter between its cadres and Assam Rifles/police in the neighbouring State’s Bishnupur district on Saturday, wherein Jaiolen Chiru and Jenthaingam Longmei were reportedly injured and hospitalised.

In a statement, the organisation clarified that there was no encounter whatsoever and termed the claim of recovery of arms and ammunitions by Manipur Police as baseless.

According to NSCN (I-M), what actually happened was that the police and Assam Rifles personnel came in civvies and surrounded the house where its members were staying and opened indiscriminate firing, wherein two its cadres were injured.

The duo were then reportedly admitted to a hospital and the police are now awaiting their formal arrest upon recovery.

The organisation further refuted the allegation levelled by Assam Police against its members Khampai W and Khunghee Mikkam, who were arrested on Friday in Tezpur, Assam as being factually incorrect.

They were never in possession of arms and ammunition and had no connection with the ambush on Assam Rifles in Nagaland as alleged by the Assam Police in the media, the statement asserted.

Dismissing the charges against its members outright as baseless, NSCN (I-M) urged both Manipur Police and Assam Police to refrain from cooking up stories to suit their interests.
