NTEP meeting highlights activities, new initiatives

National TB Elimination Programme (NTEP) conducted its review meeting on April 19 at conference hall, directorate of Health & Family welfare (H&FW) Kohima along with WHO (NTEP) medical consultants and districts TB officers. State TB officer (NTEP), Dr. Robin Lotha chaired the programme.

A press release from the directorate of H&FW stated that during the programme, WHO (NTEP) medical consultant, Dr. Collins Z Sono highlighted about the programme’s performance based on TB notification vs. achievement, TB comorbidity, Nikshay Poshan Yojana, universal drug sensitivity testing, screening for HIV among TB patients treatment success rate, drug resistant TB patients on shorter regime, contact tracing & chemoprophylaxis, active case findings, etc. This was followed by presentation of best performing district with certificate along with cash prizes. Wokha district secured the first position, second position was awarded to Phek district and third to Kiphire district. NHM mission director, Dr. I Talitemsula Jamir reminded the staff about the importance of conducting review meeting as it helped them learn from each other and led to better results.
She also encouraged the districts TB officers to conduct review meeting at district level and emphasised the importance on block wise monitoring/supervision.
WHO (NTEP) medical consultant, Dr. Palash Talukdar shared on newer initiatives such as latent TB infection management, vulnerable mapping and revised guidelines on drug resistant TB.
Meanwhile, PPM coordinator Temjenochetla Ao shared on multisectoral collaboration which was a vital component of the programme. 
A brief overview of Jan Andolan campaign, a part of advocacy communication and social mobilisation activity was given by Thungchanbeni Humtsoe.
