As part of the 75th Independence Day celebration, Nagaland State Rural Livelihoods Mission (NSRLM) in convergence with Food Safety Authority (FSA), department of Health & Family Welfare (H&FW) conducted workshop-cum-FSSAI registration of micro food business/enterprises of Self Help Groups (SHGs) in 74 RD Blocks across 11 districts on July 28-29.

A press release by NSRLM informed that ensuring adherence to COVID-19 SOPs, officials from district FSA and NSRLM provided verification and spot FSSAI registration facility to 183 SHGs of Kohima, Dimapur and Mokokchung districts where Food & Safety Office (FSO) is operating. Online registrations facility was also initiated for 72 SHGs of the remaining districts where there was no FSA office

NSRLM informed that online FSSAI registration would be an ongoing campaign for all eligible and interested SHGs and their members.

NSRLM informed that it has promoted 1,09,059 rural households into sustainable 12,272 women SHGs till date. Agriculture being the main source of economic activities in rural Nagaland, NSRLM said majority of SHGs have gradually initiated small-sized food businesses. 

NSRLM said the joint initiative of FSSAI registration campaign was expected to foster the growth of rural micro food business/enterprises which provides with legal benefits, build goodwill, ensure food safety, create consumer awareness, and assist in business expansion.
