Organisations condemn alleged rape incident

Various organisations have condemned the alleged rape on a minor by Nungsang Lemtur at Diphupar B, Dimapur. 

ENWOD: Eastern Naga Women Organisation Dimapur (ENWOD) in a condemnation  by president Athrila Sangtam and general secretary, Cheliam Khiam stated that, there is no justification to an act “as repulsive as this” and believe that investigating authority will make a proper example out of such an incident. ENWOD also urged that severest punishment be dealt without bail.

KSU: Konyak Students’ Union, Mon Headquarters president, Bumang Phaiba and general secretary, Phoe Konyak said such barbaric and inhuman act has no place in a civilised society and appealed to all right thinking citizens to condemn such heinous crime.

KSU said it shall no longer condone such inhuman crime committed upon its fellow sister and shall resort to its “own course of action” in the event justice was not delivered to the victim. 

The union has strongly appealed the concern authority to investigate into the matter and ensure that the accused was brought to book and punished.

DPSU: Dimapur Phom Students’ Union (DPSU) has strongly condemned the inhuman and heinous act of rape and has appealed the law enforcing agency to award severest punishment to such criminals.

DAYO: Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation (DAYO) in a condemnation note through its media cell stated that, perpetrators of such heinous crimes cannot be tolerated in civilized society. DAYO also demanded that the law enforcing agencies investigate thoroughly and deliver justice and punish the culprit as deemed under law at the earliest. DAYO also stated that, “as a community, we are ashamed of presence of such people within our community” and advice that no member of “our community” should try to bail out the alleged criminal and let the law take its own course unhindered. DAYO expressed sympathy with the victim and pray that she quickly recovers from her mental and physical trauma.

NNF Mon unit: Nagaland NGOs Forum (NNF) Mon unit in a condemnation by president, Hamkai Arolim and general secretary, Heatwang M expressed utmost intolerance at the inhuman act and that “such act of molestation, rape or any abuse on minor” will not be tolerated in society. It also urged every right thinking citizen to condemn such shameful act. NNF shared its sympathy with the victim and her family and requested concerned government agencies to properly rehabilitate the victim to assuage the mental trauma. It also demanded concerned authority to thoroughly investigate and award befitting punishment to the accused. 

ASTD: Ao Senso Telongjem Dimapur (ASTD) in a condemnation by president, L. Wati Jamir and general secretary, K. Mar Lemtur stated that, such act of barbarism as “the inhuman act by an elderly man” cannot be tolerated in modern society. ASTD urged all right thinking citizens to condemn such “satanic deeds.” It further stated that it would take “its own course of action as per Ao Naga customary law and usage in due course of time against the accused for callously demeaning the image and integrity of Ao community in Dimapur.” Union urged the law enforcing authority to initiate thorough investigation and upon being proved guilty to be awarded benefitting punishment to accused as per the provision of law. It also expressed its solidarity and sympathy to the victim and her family.

CSUD: Chang Students’ Union Dimapur (CSUD) in a condemnation by president, L. Stephen and general secretary, C. Auchingsonla stated that unless the accused is punished justice will not be served and no life of a girl was safe in a society like this. Union urged upon the concerned law enforcing agency to give befitting punishment to the accused according to the rule of the law.
