Orientation training programme on adult education

District level orientation training programme on Likhna Abhiyan Padhna (adult education scheme) under the department of school education & literacy, ministry of human resource and development, GoI was conducted on Tuesday under the aegis of Nagaland State Literacy Mission Authority, (NSLMA) with 88 volunteer teachers from 88 villages with research scholar Livika as the resource person.

While delivering the keynote address, nodal officer, SLMA (AE), Rokozeho stated that bringing about a literate society has been a major challenge in the country, sans independence.
Based on the 2011 census, he said that the GoI launched this new programme “padhna likhna abhiyan (read and write program)” with an objective to eradicate illiteracy and make India 100% literate by 2030.
Rokozeho further stated that the principal target of the programme was to impart functional literacy to 57 lakhs adult illiterates in the age group of 15 years and above across the country.
In this regard, he informed that the government of Nagaland approved and identified Kiphire, Tuensang and Mokokchung districts to literate 44000 with basic literacy with the help of volunteer teachers and district administration.
The nodal officer advised the teacher trainees of the orientation to act as missionaries to literate the illiterates.
Earlier, a short speech was delivered by Mokokchung ADEO, Lanusangla and the inaugural session was chaired by DEO Mokokchung adult education supervisor, Arentemjen.
