A pastor was killed and more than 20 others, including women, were injured in a violent clash between two neighbouring villages over a land dispute in Manipur’s Tengnoupal district.
With tensions running high, district administration has imposed curfew prohibiting people moving out of their respective homestead under section 144 of CrPC in the two villages, an official source said on Sunday.
District administration has deployed a large number of armed police at the two villages, particularly at the inter-village border as the tension was yet to subside.
Reports said that the violent clash between villagers of Aimol Khunyai and Aimol Chingnunghut villages under Machi police station of Tengnoupal district erupted on Saturday evening.
Report said that the clash broke out over the ownership of a playground located between the two neighbouring villages.
Tensions were brewing over the ownership of the playground after the district administration planned to develop it with new infrastructures.
The DC of the district had planned to lay the foundation stone for developing the same on September 25 last but it was cancelled following the dispute.
The deceased pastor was identified as Thangjalal, son of Waneilal, a pastor of a church at Chingnunghut village. He succumbed to his injuries during the clash at a private hospital in Kakching district where he was evacuated along with other injured villagers.
Except the pastor, there were no serious injuries even though villagers from both sides sustained injuries.
