PM Modi assures help to Manipur in tackling COVID-19

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given assurance of all possible assistance in Manipur in its efforts to tackle the grim COVID-19 situation, during a meeting with state chief minister N Biren Singh on Wednesday.

The COVID-19 situation in the state is grim with a rapid rise in the infection since the second wave of the pandemic hit the state in the last week of March this year.

Last month (July), the state witnessed the peak of the second wave with an average of 1000-mark daily infections and over 10 fatalities daily.

The Prime Minister further accepted the state chief minister’s invitation for laying foundation stones and inauguration of several major projects, said state chief minister’s office (CMO), in a release. 

Chief minister N Biren Singh is currently camping in New Delhi. He left Imphal on July 31 last.

After meetings with key Union ministers, including home minister Amit Shah and defense minister Rajnath Singh, the chief minister called on the Prime Minister at his official residence at LokKalyan Marg, New Delhi.  “Called on Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji at 7 LokKalyan Marg today & apprised him about the developmental projects that are being taken up, law & order and other important matters of the state. Also, presented a detailed account on overall management of covid situation in Manipur,” Singh posted in his facebook page.

The CMO release said that during his meeting with the Prime Minister, Singh had a detailed discussion on a wide range of subjects in various sectors including roads and bridges, water resources, drinking water supply, building infrastructure, airport development, livelihoods and law and order, amongst others. 

The chief minister also elaborately tabled the prevailing situation of COVID-19 pandemic and the state’s efforts in tackling the same. Thanking the Prime Minister for all the assistance and guidance provided by the Central government in tackling the pandemic, Singh highlighted the state’s focus on ensuring timely progress of ongoing works and also sought assistance of the Centre in meeting developmental gaps.  

Further, he invited the Prime Minister for laying foundation stones and inauguration of several major projects. 

The Prime Minister, accepting the invitation, also assured to further extend all possible assistance from the Centre in the state’s developmental efforts and also in tackling the COVID-19 pandemic, the CMO said.

The Prime Minister also congratulated the chief minister and the people of Manipur for the excellent performances shown by athletes of the state in the ongoing Tokyo Olympics  2020.

Modi further expressed his hopefulness that Manipur would produce many more winners in future Olympics and other international events, the CMO added.

Earlier, on Tuesday, the chief minister called on Union home minister Amit Shah at Parliament House and apprised him about important matters of the state. 

On the same day, he also met with Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman at Parliament House and apprised her about important finance related matters of Manipur.
