Police station sealed after personnel tests COVID +ve

A police station in Manipur’s Thoubal district was on Tuesday sealed after the station was declared a COVID-19 containment zone.

Thoubal district administration has declared Lilong police station a containment zone after a police personnel tested COVID-29 positive and in view of the impending threat of COVID-19 pandemic in the area, an official source said.

While sealing the police station, the personnel, including officers in the station, were asked to be confined inside the station premises, the source added.

This the not the first time health authorities have sealed  a  police station after the detection of COVID-19 positive cases among police personnel.

In the first week of July, a police station in Manipur’s Jiribam district was sealed after most personnel of the station were infected by the virus. 

It was after the mass infection of police personnel and their family members that authorities imposed a complete lockdown of the district to check local transmission.

City police station located in the heart of the capital Imphal was also sealed a few days ago after some personnel including an officer of the station were tested positive for the virus.

Battalion campus of the 1st Manipur Rifles has also been declared as a containment zone after the campus turned out to be a COVID-19 cluster after more than 30 personnel and their family members were tested positive for the virus.

On the other hand, in view of the increasing number of infection among the police and security personnel in the state, personnel on leave were made to undergo compulsory quarantine for 14 days before rejoining their duties.

The police personnel were asked to report to the quarantine centres specially set up at district police headquarters before they re-joined duty, an official source said.

 Meanwhile, COVID-19 positive cases in Manipur crossed 3000-mark on Tuesday after 98 new infections including 34 Central security personnel in the past 24 hours (from 6.30 pm of Aug 3 to 6.30 pm of Aug 4).

The state has 3010 COVID-19 positive cases, of which 1197are active cases and 1814 recoveries . No COVID-19 related death was reported in the past 24 hours, a report of the COVID-19 Common Control Room said on Tuesday.

The report showed detection of COVID-19 confirmed cases of 64 (39 males and 25 females) new cases from among the general population and 34 personnel of the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF).

The 98 new cases were detected during testing of 1,498 samples in the last 24 hours. Of these total, 84 were tested with antigen testing kits and 34 with TrueNat.

Except one person from Tamenglong district, all the 63 persons have no significant recent travel history, the control room said.

In the past 24 hours, 48 persons were discharged after they were found free of COVID-19 on RT PCR test, the report said.

On the other hand, analysis of the status update on COVID-19 of the state health department indicated Imphal West district has the highest number of COVID-19 cases with 471 infections including 265 active cases.

Thoubal district where state authorities feared transmission at community level has 321 positive cases including 246 active cases with the maximum number of locally contracted cases.

Churachandpur with 305 ), Kangpokpi -309, Senapati -252 , Tamenglong -230, and Ukhrul -313 were among other districts having the highest number of infections.

Tengnoupal district which reported 21 cases so far has  only five active cases including one detected today with no recent travel history. 

The district has the lowest number of infection among the 16 districts of the state.
