Manipur police on Friday arrested one PLA cadre identified as Yengkhom Surjit alias Ibobi Singh (51) from JNIMS Crossing, Porompat in Imphal East district and recovered a powerful IED. The cadre was arrested in a follow up action to the arrest of a hardcore cadre of the banned People Liberation Army (PLA), the armed wing of Manipur based armed group, Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF).

Based on the disclosure of the arrested cadre, Imphal East police commandos rushed to his house and recovered the IED weighting three kg.

He alleged that the arrested cadre was currently working under the command of one self-styled Major Robertson of RPF/PLA who is presently staying in Myanmar.

As the IED was completely assembled, the police commandos took the explosive to the nearest open paddy field at Khurai Ningthoubung in Imphal East and dismantled it with the help of Bomb Disposal Squad of CID (Technical) of the state police, the SP said.
