Reiterating its demand for setting up a government college at Tseminyu, the Rengma Students’ Union (RSU) has that the demand still remains to be fulfilled “due to weak political will of the time” despite several efforts made in the past by the then Governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya and the state government.

In a press release, RSU president Heiko Kent and general secretary Kegwalo Magh have, however, expressed optimism on the outcome of its recent meeting with Minister Higher & Technical Education and Tribal Affairs on August 24, 2020.
The union said it received “positive assurance” from the minister and the present government of its commitment to establish a model College at Tseminyu. The union expressed confidence that the fulfilment of its long cherished dream of a government college at Tseminyu would come into effect from the next academic session 2021.
The union stated that presently there were two higher secondary schools under Tseminyu sub-division, wherein hundreds of students are awarded their 10+2 certificates every year. However, RSU said that because of absence of government college in Tseminyu area many students have to forfeit their studies after 10+2 as they cannot afford degree courses outside the region.
The union said it had officially put up proposal and submitted a memorandum on the same to the Governor of Nagaland on December 17, 2015 during its 38th General Conference at Sendenyu Village.
RSU said the state government on January 26, 2017 (Republic Day) announced its efforts to establish a college at Tseminyu under PPP basis.
However, the union said that the establishment of government college at Tseminyu was yet to be approved even after a lapse of nearly five years.
