RSZ observes 6th anniversary

Rengma Selo Zi (RSZ) 6th anniversary celebration-cum-general assembly was held on April 17 at Khonibinzun village hosted by Kasha Daho Youth Organization. 

The event was held under the theme, “Embrace, engage, empower” and was attended by youths from all Rengma village and leaders from all Rengma organisations and associations. 

Angami Youth Organization (AYO) and Lotha Youth Hoho (LYH) were the special guests of the event while youth secretary Council of Rengma Baptist Churches (CRBC), Jonathan Mesen was the keynote speaker.

Speaking on the theme, Jonathan Mesen stressed on the need to raise a new generation of leaders to lead the masses. 

He said that these new “breed of leaders” must have vision for the common welfare reminding them that  “we need leaders who stands for truth... ...and have conviction, commitment and vision for our people, and one who will put his career at stake for community welfare.” 

He further encouraged the members and the leaders present to stand for the truth.

Angami Youth Organization (AYO) president, Kekhrie Pfukha in his solidarity speech stressed on the need to strengthen the bond of brotherhood among the Tenyimia family while stating that “Tenyimia” was not a political body but a fraternal family based on ancestral root. He said that Tenyimia community must strive towards unity and flourish together in the spirit of brotherhood. 

Also extending solidarity to RSZ, president Lotha Youth Hoho, N. Yanpothung Ezung appreciated the various activities undertaken by RSZ for the welfare of its members citing few developmental works carried out in the Rengma area and the selfless service rendered by the organisation during the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic times. 

Meanwhile, the organization in its general assembly approved the new executive council of RSZ for the tenure 2021-23 and also adopted a three-point resolution during the general assembly. Greetings was shared by president Rengma Hoho, Pollem Tep while Hechulo Semy introduced the new RSZ executive council for the tenure 2021-23, which would be led by Kenneth Kath and Sokenye Kent as president and general secretary. 

The advisory team consists of Prof. G.T. Thong, Er. J. G. Lorin and Zukeya Woch. 

Following the anniversary feast, a symposium on contemporary Rengma issues was also held with Prof. GT Thong (Professor, department of Geology, Nagaland University) and Awa Lorin (Deputy Chief Electoral Officer and president Rengma Officers’ Forum) as symposium speakers and Dr. Lilongchem Thyüg as the moderator.

The event culminated with the “Faces of Rengma Youths” session anchored by Shatilo Kent wherein Rengma youth icons in different fields of work were acknowledged.
