DState Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) organised two-day online training programme on “advanced management practices for sericulture: production, post harvest and value addition” for ATMA functionaries at SAMETI, Medziphema on July 7 and 8.

A press release by SAMETI stated that in her inaugural speech, director SAMETI & principal IETC i/c, Dr. Watimongla Jamir remarked that it was a proud moment for SAMETI Nagaland to conduct its first online training programme since its establishment in 2011. She said that under the current COVID-19 situation, such online trainings would continue to be undertaken and encouraged participants to be techno-savvy and familiarise themselves with ICT tools.

Meanwhile, resource persons for the training were Dr. Pankaj Neog, assistant professor and J. Akato Chishi, senior technical assistant department of entomology, NU SASRD Medziphema. Topics on production technology & management practices for sericulture, identification of different types of silkworms – cocoons and host plants and post harvest technology were covered.

It may be noted that the training programme was aimed at keeping extension functionaries updated with technical knowledge on sericulture, taking into account its vast scope in Nagaland.
