Troopers of Assam Rifles narrow escaped a powerful IED (Improvised Explosive Device) explosion on Saturday suspected to be planted by rebels along Imphal-Ukhrul Road at Seijang Tera Makhong village along Imphal-Ukhrul Road under Lamlai police station of Imphal East district today, around 9.45 am.
The IED went off when troops of 15 Assam Rifles on foot patrolling were approaching area where the explosion took place. This was the second instance of blast in the area but no casualty was reported this time. Few weeks ago, a similar IED explosion had taken place in the area as reported by police and villagers.
Villagers who staged a protest against today’s blast denounced such kind of activities causing panic to the innocent people.
They demanded clarification for repeated bomb explosions in the area, if any of the rebel group was behind the planting of the IED.
The act of triggering blast in the populated area was an act of coward people, they said.
