Tribal student bodies in Manipur have called for a two-day state-wide bandh on September 14.

The bandh was announced due to the governments alleged failure to address their long pending demands.

In view of the prevailing pandemic, COVID-19 related activities, media and medical services will be exempted from the purview of the proposed 48-hour bandh, a joint statement of the tribal student bodies stated.

The bodies include All Tribal Students Union Manipur (ATSUM), All Naga Student Association Manipur (ANSAM) and Kuki Students’ Organisation GHQ.

The statement signed by information & publicity secretary of All Tribal Students Union Manipur, Micha Kamei stated that that the charter of demand agreed on August 13, 2019 between the student bodies and state government was not translated into action till date.

The bandh was called as per resolution adopted by a general assembly of the All Tribal Students Union Manipur held on September 7 last in Imphal’s Hmar community hall.

The statement appealed to the inter-state transporters and public to “kindly bear and cooperate” during the course of the proposed bandh.
