Napalm Records noted that Alexi and Bodom After Midnight recorded three songs and shot one music video last year, which “will be released later on posthumously.”

“More than 25 years of friendship. We lost a brother,” said Children of Bodom’s Henkka Blacksmith, Janne Wirman and Jaska Raatikainen. “The world lost a phenomenal song writer and one of the greatest guitarists of all time. Memories and Alexi’s music will live forever. Our thoughts are with Alexi’s family during this difficult time.”

The announcement of Laiho’s passing has no doubt sent a somber shockwave throughout the metal community, with metallers all across the world reacting to the terrible news. “Alexi Laiho was a monumental talent & a genuine, caring & thoughtful person,” said Lamb of God’s Mark Morton. “He will be greatly missed. Rest In Peace Alexi.”

Queensrÿche guitarist and songwriter Michael Wilton posted, “I am in shock – just heard of friend and renowned guitarist Alexi Laiho’s passing. On behalf of myself and Queensryche we send our deepest condolences to his band mates, family and fellow friends. RIP brother.”

Testament shredder Alex Skolnick shared, “Sad news. #AlexiLaiho created new possibilities in extreme metal with technically sophisticated solos that held their own alongside the best in more popularized metal genres. Didn’t know him well, but we had appearances together over the years. A good guy, far too young to go RIP.”

Dave Mustaine tweeted, “So sad to hear about the passing of Alexi Laiho. We often toured together, he was truly an incredible talent. My sincere condolences to his family, friends and fans”,

One of two lead guitarists for power metal band DragonForce, Herman Li also tweeted, “Rest in Peace Alexi Laiho. Alexi has been an incredible gift to the metal world with his amazing talent and monster guitar playing. I've always regarded Alexi as one of the best metal guitarists of this generation, together with his exciting approach and attitude”.
