Tripura CM Biplab Kumar reviews various NH projects

Tripura Chief Minister, Biplab Kumar Deb, on Monday, directed officials of the Public Works Department (PWD) to ensure the timely completion of various road projects so that citizens would not be inconvenienced due to bad road conditions, reports The Northeast Today.

While addressing a review meeting for PWD officials in Agartala, the Chief Minister also took the time to review the progress of a bridge which is currently under construction over the Feni River.

Replying to the Chief Minister’s queries, a representative from the company responsible for the bridge’s construction informed that work is progressing according to plan and that the bridge will be completed by December 2020.

Meanwhile, the Chief Secretary also briefed the Chief Minister on the current status of alternative national roads from Agartala to Kurti Bridge via Khowai, Kamalpur and Kailashahar.

“After the completion of the alternative national roads project, the time it would take to travel from Agartala to Churaibari will be cut short. Citizens will also be able to travel from Agartala to Dharmanagar faster,” said the Chief Secretary.

PWD secretary, Sashi Ranjan Kumar, provided detailed information concerning the current status of the national highway from Churaibari to Agartala. He informed that land acquisition and forest clearance is completed and that the route will be converted into a double lane within the next two years.

Chief Engineer, Rajib Debabarma, informed that the tender process for 11 projects including National Highway (NH) 208- (A), 44 (A), 108 (A), 106 (B), covering a total length of 268 km, has been completed at an estimated cost of Rs. 3,193.26 crore.

He also informed that the Central Road Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) has taken up 22 road projects of which three roads have already been completed and the remaining projects are targeted to be completed by December 2020.

Furthermore, he said that construction work on two sections of NH-8 from Amtali to Udaipur and from Panitila to Betchhara is in progress and that the road project from Panitila to Betchhara is scheduled to be completed by January 2021.

“Construction work on the road from Amtali to Udaipur will be completed by August this year,” he said.
