Tzurangkong Range Naga Youth Front (TRNYF) has urged governor RN Ravi to expedite construction of the Trans-Nagaland Expressway/Nagaland Foothill Road so that the people could avail better livelihood opportunities and also for development of foothill areas in general.

Acknowledging the initial funding by the State government for starting construction of the road, TRNYF president Bendangwati and general secretary Shiluyongdang in a representation to the governor however observed that at the current pace, the completion of the road would be a distant dream, especially without the lack of any Central funding.

They said either the Centre was purposely ignoring the project or some vested interests were obstructing completion of the road. They emphasised that an expressway like the proposed Nagaland Foothill Road connecting the area to Wokha and Dimapur districts to the south and Tuli area and Mon district to the north would give impetus to sustainable development in the area.

Warmly welcoming Ravi on his maiden visit to the area at New Chungtia Mulberry Silk Plantations and Manufacturing Unit, TRNYF said Tzurangkong area currently comprised 13 recognised villages and one hamlet.

According to the front, the area continues to develop with favourable conditions for agro-based industries and mining activities.

Inter-State trade from the area had increased manifold in the last few years, it contended.

However, mentioning that the current industrialisation mostly benefited big players and companies, the youth body said lack of proper connectivity within the State discouraged small entrepreneurs, besides causing immense hardships for rural farmers and cultivators for selling their products, which was quite evident when a tour of the area was made. This loss was a gain for traders from the neighbouring State, it added.
