Two more COVID-19 casualties; 139 fresh cases in Meghalaya

Two more COVID-19 related deaths were reported in Meghalaya pushing the fatality count to 75, while 139 fresh infections took the number of active positive cases to 2,492 on Friday, health officials said.
On the other hand, 90 more patients recovered from the viral infection, taking the number of recoveries to 5,735 in Meghalaya so far, the official said. 
Director Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War informed that two COVID-19 patients, including a 72-year-old woman Merilyn Pakyntein  and 65-year-old woman Wailin Syiemlieh, succumbed to the viral infection on Thursday and Friday respectively. 
With 1,721 active COVID-19 cases, including 1,682 civilians and 39 armed forces and paramilitary forces, East Khasi Hills, including Shillong is the most affected district in the State.
Meghalaya has registered 8,303 COVID-19 cases, including 75 deceased, 2,492 active and 5,735 recovered.
“Till date, swab samples of 1,83, 808 persons have been tested of which 2,49,556 were found negative,”  War said, adding that 5,735 COVID-19 patients have been discharged so far. Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said that the state government has also decided to reopen bars across the state from October 26 in keeping with all safety norms.
