Vehicular traffic along NH-37 likely to resume in few days

Normal vehicular traffic along Imphal-Jiribam section of NH-37, the second lifeline of Manipur is likely to resume in a couple of day after nearly a month .

The vehicular traffic along the highway remained disturbed since November 1 last after a bailey bridge on Irang River along the highway in Noney district collapsed when a loaded truck was crossing on it, killing the driver.

Unable to repair the collapsed bridge despite best efforts, a new bailey bridge was being installed. However, the newly installed bridge also collapsed before completion.

The work for installation of the new bailey bridge was handled by a team of 52 Engineer Regiment of the Indian Army and National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL).

The team is putting in all efforts to restore the bailey bridge at the earliest.

Mention may be made that since the collapse of the bridge, NH-37A (Old Cachar Road or Tongjei Maril) is being used as a diversion route.

However, restriction on plying of heavy vehicles has caused inconveniences to the truckers shipping essential commodities into the state.
