Reacting to social media rumours that “deadly parvovirus” has hit Nagaland, the district veterinary hospital Dimapur has said that parvovirus was “very much prevalent” in Dimapur district throughout the year, adding that it handles thousands of cases in a year approx 10-15 cases daily specially during winter.

District veterinary hospital, Dimapur in-charge, Dr. KN Zubemo Humtsoe, urged the pet owners/lovers not to panic as the disease can be prevented by vaccination on time preferably to 2 months old & booster dose after one month.

“It’s doesn’t infect humans, but morbidity in canine population is very high, if not treated mortality is very high in young puppies,” Dr. Humtsoe said.
