Dismayed over deplorable road condition and the indifference of the state government, villages under Mon district have initiated road repair and maintenance of 16 km “abandoned road” from Tang junction to S/Mokok Village.

In a press release, Chenwetnyu Village Council chairman, PM Nockpai Konyak and S/ Mokok VDB secretary, Wangpai M Wangsa stated that the road connects three assembly constituencies namely 44 A/C, 45 A/C and 46 A/C and is the main lifeline of four villages. The release informed that the maintenance work was being carried out by the public of Yuching, S/Tangten, S/Lokyo, S/Mokok under Phomching Block and Chenmoho, Chenwetnyu, Chenloisho, Wangti and Chen town under Chen Block.

It said the major repairing/maintenance of the road was carried out under the initiative of the village council chairmen and VDB secretaries of eight villages and leaders from Chen town.

The release lamented that the road has been left “unattended by the state government for a long time” and that the public has been facing inconveniences due to deplorable road condition.

Expressing dismay that no major repairing and maintenance had been initiated by concern department, the release stated that the road was repaired in the year 2020 by the villages.
