Virtual training on post-harvest processing of horticultural crops

A virtual training on “post-harvest processing & value addition of horticultural crops” was conducted on July 20 by Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH) DAC & FW, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, government of India, Medziphema. 

A press release by CIH informed that the objective of the training program was to impart technology on processing of underutilized fruits in north east India. 

Training started with a brief remark about CIH and its post-harvest management activities by post-harvest technologist, CIH, Vinika K Aomi. 

Additional commissioner, horticulture (DAC&FW) and director CIH, Dr. N.K. Patle encouraged the trainees to learn in-depth and understand the benefits of value addition and processing of horticultural crops. 

Patle also assured the participants that CIH would extend technical assistance to any participants willing to work hard and start their own processing unit.

Scientist, ICAR Nagaland centre Dr. Aabon Yanthan imparted training on processing of fruit juices with special reference to wine making.

Assistant Professor SASRD, Medziphema Dr. Animesh Sarkar delivered in -depth lecture on processing and value addition of jackfruit.

Ex-trainee of CIH Ng Baio from Senapati, Manipur also presented his success story in the field of food processing and value addition. 

The participants comprised of scholars, rural youths, upcoming entrepreneurs, state officials and ATMA functionaries of the region.
