The Open Volleyball Tournament organised by Kuki Baptist Youth Endeavour, Sirhima was graced by Zhaleo Rio, IAS (Retd.), Advisor, Sericulture, Excise & Minority Affairs, GoN, as Special Guest on November 5 at Sirhima playground. A press release by NDPP 5 Ghaspani-II A/ C media secretary Thejangukho Yalietsu stated that. Zhaleo Rioin his address at the inaugural function, lauded the elaborate arrangements and the 40 teams participating in the tournament. Rio however, rued the lack of following SoPs and requested concerned village authorities to take all precautionary measures during such a mega event.

“At a time when people are all aware of the prevailing condition due to Covid-19 but negligent in following guidelines, let us be responsible sportspersons, spectators, leaders, villagers, etc. and show that we can observe necessary protocols even during this tournament,” he advised,  adding that safety measures especially for children and elderly, should be compulsory.
Extending his best wishes to the teams from different districts, Rio opined that the tournament should also be a time to know each other and develop affinity. He acknowledged that Kukis are gifted in sports and music and as such, urged them as well as all sportspersons to vie for excellence, till they can “represent our people at highest level in their respective disciplines.”
Dwelling on the requisites for a team to win, Rio stated that “apart from hardwork and discipline, unity is always mandatory,” and that there shouldn’t be room for ‘isms’ nor personal differences. “It is only through unity that a team can shoulder responsibilities together and compete for the best,” Rio asserted.
Sharing his mind on organising events, Rio expressed that it is high time we “lend ears to the advice of special guests instead of waiting to hear about gift hampers from them,” and above all, practice austerity measures on felicitations, presentations, feasts, etc. during such programs but rather save and utilise resources for the welfare of sportspersons.
The inaugural function, which began at 10:30 am on was compered by Themneilhing and Chongboi, while pastor Lhunlam pronounced the invocation. Other highlights included;  greetings by Paominthang, cultural dance by KBYE, special song by Lengginlal, a speech by Rev.
